Middle School Open House
Last night was the "Meet the Teacher" night at the Middle School. It's kind of fun...all (or most) of the parents go and listen to the principal talk for a minute and then we get to go meet all of the teachers. Ryan's day starts with science. Mrs. Weingardt is a wonderful teacher - - if all teachers were like her, this world would be a better place! She has very high expectations of all of her students and is very organized. Ryan responds to her very well. They are going to learn about the scientific method, and then they will do a lot of earth science this year. After science he goes to Band. Ryan is a drummer and LOVES music. It is just one more thing that just comes naturally to him. This year the 6th grade band will have two concerts and will play during the junior high basketball games and one varsity football game. 3rd hour he goes to Math. Ryan does pretty good at Math. 4th hour Ryan is in a reading class that is supposed to help him strengthen his reading skills. De-coding words to be more specific. He goes to lunch and recess after that. 5th hour he goes to Social Studies. They are going to study the history of China and the middle east and things like that. If she ties it in to the Olympics, it could be intersting. I hope they also do something to teach the kids about the presidential election this year. To me that is more important that middle east history...but then, that's just my opinion. 6th hour Ryan goes to Language Arts. If he liked reading and writing, I would be more excited about this class... Maybe Mrs. Mauch will be able to motivate him enough that he will come out of it liking ot read. I can only hope. Finally for his last class of the day he has PE. Ryan told me when he saw his schedule that by having PE last hour it would give him something to look forward to all day long. :-) It looks to me like we (Ryan) are going to have our work cut out for us this year. I told him that if he keeps on top of his assignments and turns everything in on time that he will be fine. If he doesn't...it could be a long year. I have a feeling though that this year Ryan will grow up and change a lot. We'll see...
